First Post

The title for this blog is quote from Roberto Benigni's Oscar acceptance speech for the movie "Life is Beautiful", which I completely loved.

Pure Joy

I want every day of my life to be like that. Overwhelmed with joy at the beauty of everything. Even the ugly things, even pain and suffering and sadness and loss. These things are still beautiful.

Maybe it's because I'm a Libra, but I have a hard time believing something without also believing its opposite. As Niels Bohr said, "The opposite of a fact is falsehood, but the opposite of one profound truth may very well be another profound truth."

Also, he said, "There are some things so serious that you just have to laugh at them." And that's something else I try to live by.

So, my vision for this blog - I'm going to write stuff (hopefully) and post pictures and videos (definitely) and people can read it or not (I don't care) I'm mostly doing it for me, like a journal. With embedded html code. ;)

I hated writing in my journal when I was a teenager, and I tend to hate writing in general. It's so much slower than my thoughts and I hate organizing my thoughts. PLUS I had three brothers, and well, they found my journal and read it. But the urge struck, and I'm going with it.

This is me:

I know, adorable, right??

There will most likely be talk of books. And Persian poetry. And maybe other kinds of poetry if I'm feeling inclusive.

Although I don't REALLY believe in re-incarnation, I have sometimes thought to myself that perhaps I suffered mightily in a past life, and this life (filled with joy, ease and laughter) was my reward. There is no one I would rather be than myself, no place I would rather be than here, no one I would rather love than those I already do. The future is wide-open and filled with possibilities, the past is filled with wonderful memories than I treasure, and the present may only last for an instant, but an instant is also an eternity.

And yes, we will all die one day - but that's just one more reason to (in the words of a cheesy country singer whose name I can't be bothered to Google) "Live like you are dying". Because we are. And it's wonderful. :)
